Time to cast your nominations for The SPARK Awards 2017

It’s that time of year again! The month of August is our kickoff to The SPARK Awards season and when we ask you, the public – readers of The Commercial Appeal – to help us thank the organizations and individuals who are leading by example, giving back, and making a difference in the Mid-South, by nominating them for a SPARK Award. There are 13 categories covering individuals of different ages (youth, college student, adult), nonprofits and corporations of various sizes, then education with a school, teacher, and education leader, like a principal or college dean. There’s also a Legacy Award to honor someone’s efforts and impact over the course of many years or a lifetime.

This will be our fourth year of producing The SPARK Awards, which is a televised awards show that airs on WKNO/Channel 10 in December, during the holiday season. The show is produced in partnership by cityCURRENT and WKNO-TV; and it grew from the success of our monthly show, The SPARK, which is now in its fifth year on WKNO. With both shows our goal is simple: to spotlight the GOOD taking place in our city and how we can become a SPARK to make an even larger difference and help more people. Our belief is that we need to SEE the GOOD that takes place each and every day, so we understand there is GOOD in this world and in our city, and that by showcasing the GOOD, the lessons learned and how to get involved, we can inspire more people to join in the effort. The SPARK Awards, being publicly nominated, allows us to find, honor and celebrate even more of our hometown heroes, who do GOOD each and every day, yet don’t seek out attention; so it truly is a special opportunity for us to all work together to inspire our city.

Visit SPARKawardsTV.com or click the button above to cast your nominations for individuals and organizations who are making a difference. The nomination phase closes at 5:00 PM CST on Thursday, August 31, 2017, so that’s your deadline. You can nominate one person or cast nominations in each category. No preference or weighting is given to multiple nominations for the same individual or organization, though. The things you’ll want to highlight and criteria for judging are based on taking a leadership role in initiatives or efforts that better our community, volunteerism and impact.

Once the nomination phase ends on August 31, all of the nominations will be handed over to our partners at the Midtown Memphis Rotary Club, who serve as our independent judges for the awards and show. They’ll select the winners who we’ll ultimately interview and spotlight during the special televised broadcast of The SPARK Awards 2017 later this year. This is a totally FREE, public, nomination-driven honor and way for us to thank our community champions and hometown heroes, so cast your nominations today!
