Mission

#PowertheGOOD

Focus

cityCURRENT is strategically focused on THREE things:

Philanthropy and Volunteerism

We align resources and efforts to make a collective impact in the community through financial contributions to nonprofits and turnkey volunteer opportunities that engage companies and individuals of all ages to physically give back.

FREE Public Events

We make it easy for ALL citizens to come together, learn, and be inspired by hosting FREE public events that, by design, bring all sides of our community together to foster collaboration.

Positive Media

We produce and share positive stories through an array of broadcast media in order to inspire citizens and spread GOOD news and energy.

Overall, cityCURRENT is intently focused on serving the community and bringing organizations and citizens together to make a difference. In some capacity, we work with just about every business, nonprofit, school, civic group, church, government entity, and organization in the Mid-South. We strive to bring everyone together, in order to provide enrichment events, foster collaboration and teamwork, champion positives, and empower giving back.

Culture

Our DNA is rooted in philanthropy and using our collective resources to power the GOOD. Every day we seek to help and inspire others, to ignite positive change and lift our city and citizens. cityCURRENT has been internationally recognized for changing the face of business networking groups by forging our own model that is driven by a sense of passion and purpose for collectively impacting our community. So, instead of using our resources to grow inward, we focus on giving outward.

Structure

cityCURRENT is comprised of more than 80 corporate partners, which are all exclusive in their core business categories and come together to underwrite the costs of all events and efforts. Basically, the companies all put money in each year, which becomes our budget, and then we do as much GOOD with it, as possible. This model enables us to invite Mid-South citizens to participate in a wide variety of FREE events and programs, to focus on philanthropy and helping nonprofts, and also to produce an array of positive-oriented media. The partners truly function as a team, sharing ideas, resources, and referrals, as well. cityCURRENT does offer some partner-only programs and events, as well as the FREE community events, which are open to everyone in the Mid-South.

cityCURRENT keeps in touch with everyone through our FREE email newsletter, beCONNECTED, which shares upcoming cityCURRENT events that are open to the community, positive news and updates, job postings, nonprofit events, and much more. If you'd like to receive updates and special invitations, please subscribe to the email newsletter. If you'd like more information on becoming a corporate partner, sponsoring or advertising in our shows, or playing a larger role in our efforts, please email or call us.

History

cityCURRENT launched in Memphis in 2005, as a part of a franchise agreement under the original organization name, the Lipscomb Pitts Breakfast Club. Lipscomb & Pitts Insurance, LLC helped found the organization as title sponsor. Lipscomb & Pitts Insurance, LLC purchased the rights and took ownership in 2007, which allowed the organization to change the model and turn it into what you know and see today. After 11 years of being known as the Lipscomb Pitts Breakfast Club, and after such a tremendous evolution to become a community catalyst, we rebranded to become cityCURRENT in 2016. The name cityCURRENT is now a call to action for all of us to join together and become the electric current powering GOOD in our city, state, nation, and world.

Testimonials

"It is actually hard to put into words the feeling I had meeting and joining with the Memphis 'giving' community at the LPBC Signature Breakfast hosted by Smith & Nephew and in partnership with The Martin Institute for Teaching Excellence in August, 2014. To see living embodiments of real and true compassion and caring for others, all gathered in one place gave me some sense of the astounding range, depth and sustained good works the business community in Memphis is doing. It was clear to me

"It was very revealing. I had no idea of the broad range of community outreach initiatives involved by the sponsoring members. This is the most positive movement that I have seen in Memphis in a long time and is surely needed. I really enjoyed my visit."
