ServiceMaster by Cornerstone Helps First Responders Fight COVID-19

Not all heroes wear capes and operate a batmobile; some dawn grey polos and drive large yellow vans. These everyday heroes are employed by ServiceMaster by Cornerstone, a disaster mitigation company specializing in both commercial and residential fire damage repair, water removal, disaster restoration, and mold removal. “I’ve always had a heart for giving back,” remarks Tyler Pattat, President and Owner of ServiceMaster by Cornerstone. However, before COVID-19, Pattat could not have predicted that he would add viral pandemics to the list of disasters in which ServiceMaster by Cornerstone would be providing expertise.

It all began with a phone call Pattat received after the Safer at Home Order was mandated in Tennessee. The Shelby County Police and Fire Departments needed someone to do weekly preventative cleaning at their 911 dispatch station, in order to ensure the county’s public servants who could not work from home were kept as safe as possible. ServiceMaster by Cornerstone was able to provide that service and in doing so noticed that the need extended beyond the station. Officers who patrol the city, as well as emergency medical professionals operating ambulances, were running a risk of cross-contamination each time they got in and out of their vehicles, if they unknowingly came into contact with someone with COVID-19 while on the job. Wanting to show their support, ServiceMaster by Cornerstone began offering a free vehicle sanitation service to Shelby County Police and Fire Departments, as well as the Memphis Police Department. They have treated more than 700 vehicles at this point with no plans to slow down soon.

While scrolling through social media recently, Pattat also noticed a post created by Dustin Smith of 901 Gives. 901 Gives had an initial goal to provide between 1,500-2,500 free meals to those who have become food insecure because of the COVID-19 crisis. Once again, it all began with a phone call. This time Pattat called Smith and made the commitment to donate 700 meals to the cause. These meals have now helped 901 Gives contribute more than 6,500 meals to date. “It’s been a great opportunity to give back, and that’s the main focus here. We’re blessed to be able to do it” comments Pattat.

ServiceMaster by Cornerstone is one of the many companies doing their part to serve the community during these unprecedented times. They’re providing an example of how a business can utilize the talents and skillsets of its team, along with its resources, and apply them toward helping others and making our city a better place. Their leadership begs the question of other business owners and individuals alike: What do you have that you could contribute in a positive way? What expertise do you or your company have that can be used to help others? These questions are ones that should be on our minds all the time, but amid a pandemic, they become part of the foundation for how our community, our nation, and the world will heal.

ServiceMaster by Cornerstone continues to provide its disaster mitigation services to customers while adhering to strict CDC guidelines, including the completion of client prescreening forms and PPE. To date, ServiceMaster by Cornerstone has processed over 30 buildings that had known cases of COVID-19 across the Mid-South.
