Meritan: In-Home Care and Services for Vulnerable Populations

Melanie Keller, President and CEO

Melanie Keller, President and CEO of Meritan, discusses the organization’s mission and programs, including in-home personal care, home health, job-training for seniors, specialized foster care, and family-model residential services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities; along with safety protocols in place and how they are helping those affected by COVID-19.

Meritan, Inc. and Apelah, Inc. have provided critical health and social services for vulnerable populations in the Shelby County community since 1961.

During this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to serve our clients with compassionate and quality care while ensuring the safety and health of the client, their families, and our staff.

  • Implemented practices so that staff may work remotely from home and virtually with clients when possible.
  • Limiting who may enter agency buildings with newly established staff and visitor screening guidelines.
  • Canceled in-person meetings and events and moved to virtual meetings when possible.
  • Established guidelines to pre-screen client home visits to reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure to clients and staff.

Meritan receives daily updates from state and federal agencies including the CDC, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the Department of Health. Staff will continue to monitor these updates, follow recommendations, and revise our procedures as necessary.
