Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Melvin Cole, Founder of PURE Youth Athletic Alliance, which offers a private school program that prepares its student-athletes to become successful college students. During the interview, Melvin talks about growing up in Memphis and getting caught up in the wrong things, which landed him in jail, where he made a promise to God to turn his life around and help youth from his hometown. He discusses the mission of PURE (Progressing Under Restraints and Extremes) and their academy style program with a day school and boarding option with a focus on academics, athletics, agriculture and character development. Melvin highlights some of his students, including Tevin Carter, who is one of the nation’s top rated pro-style quarterback recruits, and also talks about how the students and program have changed his life, along with how the community can support their efforts.
Our program provides a safe and nurturing environment for male students. We operate an accredited education program and host tutoring programs that help youth enhance basic academic skills. We know education and poverty are linked. We want to give our students the resources the need to defeat generational poverty.
