1. FedEx Corp. announced a $3.5 million donation to Orbis International in support of the Flying Eye Hospital.
The Orbis Flying Eye Hospital is a mobile teaching hospital traveling the world to provide vision-saving eye surgeries and training to local eye care teams. The donation will help provide support to Orbis and its hospital over the next five years.
2. Actress Melissa Joan Hart became the first person to win $1,027,800 on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune playing to benefit Youth Villages here in Memphis. Guessing correctly in a “Food & Drink” category — the answer was “bran muffins,” which she said is her “new favorite food.”
3. $30M South Front mixed-use development approved
A 120-year-old brick warehouse and an adjoining vacant lot on South Front are set to become part of a $30 million mixed-use development that would fill the last missing piece of one of Downtown’s most vibrant corridors. It will include 165 apartments, 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space and 110 parking spaces, which will be located on the ground floor and basement levels of the structure.
