ALLMemphis: A United Vision of Community-Wide Literacy

Access Language and Literacy

Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Dr. Krista Johnson, Founder and Executive Director of ALLMemphis, who shares some of her personal story and what led her to start the nonprofit in 2017 with a focus of dramatically increasing literacy and education equity throughout the Memphis community. ALLMemphis’ core initiative is to train teachers and literacy coaches in the methods of Orton-Gillingham – a multi-sensory approach to literacy instruction that historically has been limited to dyslexia therapy and communities of affluence – and then provide a multi-year mentorship to support the implementation of the approach in charter and public schools. During the interview, Krista talks about the importance of focusing on literacy, the ripple impact it has in the community, their model and how it is making a difference, how the community can support their efforts and more.
