Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Bacarra Mauldin, Chief of Staff for Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA), which is the public transportation provider for the Memphis area. As one of the largest transit operators in the State of Tennessee, MATA transports customers in the City of Memphis and parts of Shelby County on fixed-route buses, paratransit vehicles, and vintage rail trolleys. During the interview, Bacarra highlights a recent $46 million grant that provides a major step forward in securing the city’s first Bus Rapid Transit System, and then discusses the expansion of their popular on-demand option, Ready! by MATA, which provides front door service, similar to any other ride sharing program, and a flexible solution within a specified geographic zone. Bacarra also talks about their new Real-time Bus Tracking System on fixed routes, which allows riders to identify the location of their bus at any time, and then lists some of the current job openings and career opportunities with MATA.
