High Hopes Development Center in Middle Tennessee

A place where children with special needs can receive a jump start in early education with therapeutic interventions on-site for those who need it.

Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Gail Powell, Executive Director of High Hopes Development Center, and Allen Long, the incoming Executive Director starting on June 6, 2022, who both highlight the organization’s efforts to equip children, youth, and their families with the skills necessary to achieve success through education, therapeutic services, and loving support. High Hopes Development Center was established in 1984 and created out of necessity by five families in Middle Tennessee. these community members envisioned a place where children with special needs could receive a jump start in early education with the therapeutic interventions on-site for those who needed it. What they created was an inclusive environment, where children with special needs play, learn, and grow alongside their friends who are typically-developing. So, High Hopes is the marriage of an inclusive Preschool and a Pediatric Therapy Clinic at one location, which makes it unique and effective. During the interview, Gail and Allen talk about the organization’s unique approach and impact on children and families, how they foster inclusion in the community, and how the community can support High Hopes Development Center. Allen also talks about his stepping in as the Executive Director on June 6, why the opportunity is a perfect fit to combine his business leadership and teaching experiences and his passion for serving youth and families, and what his vision is for the future ahead.
