Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Dr. Elise Shockley, Lead Dentist and Dental Residency Director, and Shamala Blackwell, Site Manager with Christ Community Health Services, who both highlight the organization’s mission and efforts “to provide high-quality healthcare to the underserved in the context of distinctively Christian service.” Today, Christ Community is one of the largest Faith-Based health centers in the nation and the largest provider of healthcare to the underserved in Shelby County, providing care to over 58,000 unique individuals across multiple locations. During the interview, Elise and Shamala talk about the benefits of providing complete healthcare services to support their patients’ physical, mental and spiritual health, and how diversity among their team members plays an important role in serving the community, as well. They discuss the importance of oral health and how that plays an integral role in their overall efforts, and then spotlight their partnership with Delta Dental of Tennessee and the Smile180 Foundation, which has played an integral role in their dental care efforts and their ability to treat patients with state-of-the-art equipment.
