Meharry Medical College & Community Clinic of Shelbyville & Bedford County

Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Dr. Julie Gray, Associate Dean for Community Based Collaboration with Meharry Medical College, who spotlights the School of Dentistry and their collaboration with the Community Clinic of Shelbyville & Bedford County. Located in Nashville, Tennessee, Meharry Medical College is one of the nation’s oldest and largest historically black academic health science centers dedicated to educating physicians, dentists, researchers, and health policy experts. During the interview, Dr. Gray talks about the importance of training and equipping dentists to support and impact rural and underserved communities, and why their collaboration is so important with The Community Clinic of Shelbyville & Bedford County, a free dental and medical clinic providing limited health care for the working, uninsured, low-income adults of Bedford County, Tennessee. She also spotlights support from Delta Dental of Tennessee and the Smile180 Foundation, and discusses how the equipment and resources provided have impacted the school, students, and individuals and families served, as well. She wraps up sharing helpful tips for oral health care and ways the community can support their efforts.
