The panelists:
Trina Frierson – Founder & President, Mending Hearts, Inc. – Nashville, TN
Mending Hearts is a 20-year-old Nashville agency with a four-block campus in West Nashville recognized as the only two-year residential treatment program in Tennessee serving women breaking the chains of addiction no matter their ability to pay. To date, over 5,000 women have been served by the Mending Hearts program. Trina, a 17-time felon, designed and started Mending Hearts while still housed in a local halfway house. She has cultivated a dynamic Board as Mending Hearts continues to grow and serve more constituents.
Carol Ostrow – Current Interim Executive Director, Fight for Sight – New York, NY
Carol’s leadership in the nonprofit/social impact sector reaches areas including arts & culture, civic, higher education, and religious organizations. She is recognized for her ability to launch programs and secure substantial funding for their sustainability. Carol’s roles as Founder, Executive Director, Trustee, and Board member provide an interesting collection of anecdotes in leadership from both a staff and Board member perspective. In her current role, Carol is only the second Executive Director since the organization’s inception. She follows in the footsteps of the Founder who led Fight for Sight for 50 years.
Parvez Mohsin – Chief Education and Development Officer, Nashville International Center for Empowerment (NICE) – Nashville, TN
Parvez brings an international scope to our discussion having served in the human rights sector in countries including Venezuela, Vietnam, Turkey, and Brazil as well as here in the United States in the areas of strategy, advocacy, development, and public policy. He currently serves at NICE whose program of support and advocacy for those new to our shores builds communities and partnerships for our immigrant neighbors in Nashville. His story of how he started at NICE rising to his current position demonstrates his understanding of leadership and partnership which he leverages in both his areas of responsibility.
Patrick DeYoung – Outside buyer at Schnitzer Steel, AAVC Board of Directors -Seattle, WA
Patrick, a U.S. Army Bronze Star recipient, brings the stories of an emerging Board leader to our panel. His community service as an undergraduate includes a Resettlement and Local Initiatives Coordinator in Poughkeepsie, NY. Patrick now serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Alumni Association of Vassar College. He was a full scholarship recipient of the Posse Veterans Undergraduate Education Program.
