Baptist Operation Outreach: Efforts to Help the Homeless

Baptist has been providing free health care to Memphis' homeless community since 1997 when it opened the HOPE Health Center for the Homeless.

Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Keith Norman, VP/Chief Government Affairs and Community Outreach Officer with Baptist Memorial Health Care, and Jan Taylor, Program Director with Baptist Operation Outreach, who both highlight the signature community outreach initiative that is Memphis’ largest health care provider for the homeless. Baptist Operation Outreach in partnership with Christ Community Health Services provides free acute and primary care, disease management support and prevention information to Memphis without permanent housing through a primary clinic and mobile unit. Baptist Memorial Health Care and Christ Community Health Services have partnered to offer free health care for the homeless since 2005. During the interview, Keith and Jan share some of the history, the growth of the outreach efforts and impact over the years, how the pandemic affected their efforts, the importance of the work to both the individuals served and our community at large, and how the community can support their efforts.
