The Salvation Army in Nashville, Angel Tree & Red Kettle Challenge

Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Captain Philip Canning, Area Commander for The Salvation Army in Nashville, who shares how the organization has been impacting Middle Tennessee through much needed social services and programs for more than 130 years.

During the interview, Captain Canning talks about their focus on helping those who are homeless, preventing homelessness and fighting poverty through a myriad of comprehensive programs designed to bring a holistic approach to the individual’s or family’s need. The organization’s mission is “to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.” Captain Canning discusses some of their different programs, including LIFNAV, Food and Financial Assistance, Supportive Housing, and Youth Activities. He also talks about ways the community can get involved and support their efforts to make a difference, like through Angel Tree and the Red Kettle Challenge.
