Shelby County Schools partnered with Cummins and community partners to provide technical education for students and the community in the diesel engine industry. Cummins chose Memphis for its first United States-based Technical Education for Communities program. The company has existing programs up and running in 22 other locations around the globe. The program will operate inside East T-STEM Academy, formerly known as East High, and will offer on-site dual enrollment classes for students to learn skills around the creation and maintenance of diesel engines. Starting this fall, students can earn an industry certification before they graduate, or can transfer credits to a technical college.
