Nashville’s Rite of Spring - 79th Running of Iroquois Steeplechase - May 9, 2020 

History of Steeplechase/Race Day:

  • How it began: Frost, Houghland and Sloan hosting the first Iroquois Steeplechase at Percy Warner Park 
  • Iroquois the racehorse
  • Grown to over 25,000+ in attendance through the years with the largest purses in the National Steeplechase meets
  • Nashville’s version of The Kentucky Derby (Kentucky Derby is flat racing; Iroquois is steeplechase racing)
  • International Flavor – The Finest Thoroughbred horses from England and Ireland attend (past Derby horses also have attended., i.e. Mr. Hot Stuff)
