The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art enriches the lives of our diverse community through the museum's expanding collection, varied exhibitions, and dynamic programs that reflect the art of world cultures from antiquity to the present.
Upcoming Events include:
September 1, 2018 - August 11, 2019
Federico Uribe (Colombian, b. 1962) creates magical creatures and playful installations from everyday objects. For the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, he will install a large-scale site-specific environment in the museum’s rotunda. Uribe produces immersive and dreamlike landscapes by transforming materials such as books, colored pencils, wood fragments, and discarded clothing into animals and natural habitats.
Jaume Plensa: Talking Continents
September 22, 2018 - January 6, 2019
Jaume Plensa (Spanish, b. 1955) produces large-scale sculptures and installations that use language, history, literature and psychology to draw attention to the barriers that separate and divide humanity. In Talking Continents, Plensa used stainless steel to create a floating archipelago of 19 cloud-like shapes.
The Brooks has invited French artist Julien de Casabianca to enliven Memphis with his Outings Project. This next installation in the Brooks Outside series brings paintings from museum walls onto the streets, creating an opportunity to discover, appreciate, and understand artwork in a new way.
Georgia O’Keeffe: Visions of Hawai‘i
December 1, 2018 - February 24, 2019
This landmark exhibition offers a rare focus on 20 of Georgia O’Keeffe’s depictions of Hawai‘i from a nine-week sojourn in 1939 while on commission to produce images for a Hawaiian Pineapple Company promotional campaign.
