Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Tammy Pierce, Associate Vice President of Development at Meritan, who highlights the regional nonprofit agency that has been serving Memphis and the Mid-South for over 60 years with the mission to “improve well-being and promote independence throughout life’s stages with quality and compassion.” During the interview, Tammy talks about how Meritan provides a variety of services, including in-home services to the low-income and disabled who are homebound. Meritan provides foster care services to special needs children in three states, Tennessee, Georgia and Arkansas. The organization also has job training and career services for low-income senior citizens wanting to get back into the workplace; and they also work with other local nonprofits and first responders to provide services to victims of Elder Abuse. Tammy talks about these different services and then spotlights their Silver Bells program, which provides holiday gifts to many of the low-income homebound clients Meritan serves, who do not have family or friends to provide them otherwise. She talks about how the program works, some of the typical requested items, the power and joy of participating, and how it is the perfect opportunity to also teach children the value of giving back and spreading joy during the holiday season.
