RISE Memphis: The Importance of Financial Education & Empowerment
Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Shelia Terrell, CEO and Co-Founder of RISE Memphis, who highlights the nonprofit’s mission and efforts to improve the community by providing financial literacy tools and incentives to help families build assets and make better financial choices. RISE (Responsibility. Initiative. Solutions. Empowerment) offers a variety of year-round programming for families, children grades 5-12, and seniors. During the interview, Shelia discusses their different programs, including Save Up, Goal Card, Silver Neighbors, and the Greater Memphis Financial Empowerment Center, which was just recognized by the Office of the Shelby County Trustee for milestone work and results in serving more than 1,000 clients to reduce total debt by over $2M through individual financial literacy counseling. Shelia shares some success stories, helpful tips and ways the community can support their efforts.
