Wolf River Conservancy & Discover the Greenway

Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Keith Cole, Executive Director of Wolf River Conservancy, who highlights the nonprofit organization’s mission and efforts to protect and enhance the Wolf River and its watershed as a sustainable natural resource.

During the interview, Keith talks about the importance of being an accredited land trust by the Land Trust Alliance, and how they are able to work with landowners and the community to conserve land by accepting donations of land, purchasing land, negotiating private, voluntary conservation agreements on land, and stewarding conserved land through the generations to come. The Conservancy goes above and beyond the traditional roles of a land trust by also educating youth and the public, engaging the community through the Wolf River Greenway, and providing guided paddle trips.

During the interview, Keith discusses their efforts around conservation, education and recreation, and touches on the Ghost River and Greenway. He also highlights their “Discover the Greenway,” which is a week-long, outdoor exploration series of events taking place June 3-10. There is a different event every day, including kayaking, nature walks, biking, and more, with the culminating event being the Greenway 5k on June 10. As people “discover” different parts of the Wolf River Greenway around the city, and snap Selfies to show they were there, they have a chance to win prizes.
