Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Jenny Matthews, Executive Director, and Caina Lynch, Community Program Manager, with A Step Ahead Foundation of Middle Tennessee, who both highlight the nonprofit organization’s mission and efforts to prevent unplanned pregnancies by providing education and access to free long-acting reversible contraception (LARC).
During the interview, Jenny and Caina share how when people can plan their families, educational, economic and health outcomes are improved for families. They discuss the rate of unplanned pregnancies in Tennessee and how their efforts have helped reduce the percentage, talk about their expansion into additional counties, and how they partner with organizations in the community to provide education and access to their free healthcare services.
Jenny and Caina highlight how a client never receives a bill and how the organization helps navigate the process and covers a well woman exam, STI testing, the cost of the device, and removal at any time. The only requirement to participate is that the client be a resident or student in one of the 29 counties the nonprofit organization serves. They also share some testimonials and talk about upcoming events and ways the community can support their efforts.
