Feed America First: Providing food to those who feed the hungry

Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Julie Vandel, Director of Development for Feed America First, who highlights the faith-based, nonprofit hunger relief organization based in Murfreesboro, Tennessee with a mission to provide food to those who feed the hungry.

During the interview, Julie shares some of the history for the organization and talks about how they receive bulk food donations from food manufacturers, distributors, farms and grocery stores, etc. and with the help of hundreds of volunteers every month, they divide and distribute the food to about 200 partner agencies (food pantries, shelters, etc.) throughout Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and Kentucky. Feed America First focuses on small towns and rural areas. Julie discusses how the process works, their facility and the logistics involved in order to distribute over 1,000,000 lbs. of food and to help feed 40,000 families each month. She talks about the growing prevalence of food insecurity as prices rise and how the community can support their efforts and get involved to make a difference.
