Intunity – The Housing Foundation of West Tennessee

Low-income housing for the disabled.

Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Earle Schwarz, Executive Director of Intunity – The Housing Foundation of West Tennessee, who highlights the nonprofit organization’s mission and efforts “to open doors to exceptional, affordable rental homes for people with disabilities (intellectual and developmental or physical disabilities) and seniors.”

During the interview, Earle shares some of the history for the organization and talks about how Intunity presently owns 24 homes in Shelby County and 13 homes in Madison County to help individuals with disabilities overcome the barriers to living a productive, engaged, independent, meaningful life in the community by providing safe, affordable, and accessible rental housing. Earle discusses how they were able to acquire the homes in the past and modify them to meet the unique needs of their tenants, and how they are changing their approach for the future by designing and building their own homes using an optimal floor plan providing energy efficiencies and durability. He also touches on a partnership that will enable mixed use in the neighborhood developments and include affordable housing for seniors. Earle wraps up talking about the importance of their work and how better homes lead to better lives, and how the community can get involved to support their efforts.
