Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Diana W. Alarcon, Director of the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT), who highlights their mission and efforts to build and manage a safe, reliable public network which elevates the quality of life and prosperity in Davidson County. NDOT exists to create a safe, sustainable, and balanced transportation system that supports choice and offers opportunities for vibrant neighborhoods for present and future generations.
During the interview, Diana discusses her team’s roles and responsibilities and talks about some of the specific initiatives focused on safety, including Vision Zero, working toward a future with zero roadway deaths on our streets. Vision Zero Nashville is a Metro-wide initiative spearhead by the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) in partnership with the Mayor’s Office, community organizations, businesses, and residents. The collective goal is to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries on Metro Nashville roads.
Diana also talks about the importance of bike lanes and sidewalks, and provides some updates on progress, as well as some updates on laws that impact drivers. She covers upgrades with traffic lights and how that impacts traffic flow and driving, and their Traffic Management Center.
