Small Fish Branding and trends in social media, websites, and marketing

Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Chris Cummings, Founder and CEO of Small Fish Branding, who highlights his Nashville-based branding and digital marketing agency that helps nonprofits, churches and small businesses build their brands to inspire action, connection and impact.

During the interview, Chris shares how he was led to launch the company after working with churches and nonprofits for two decades and realizing there was a challenge for so many other organizations to define their audience, clarify their expertise (niche), and discover were the two intersect. He talks about the importance of understanding “who is your audience” and “aiming small,” and how you can build out avatars for the different audience profiles. He then shares some of the ways his audiences are different between churches, nonprofits, and businesses, for example. Chris then discusses some of the major trends that have his attention with social media, websites and branding. He touches on the power of videos and getting right into the hook, the importance of including captions for silent viewing, and how creators and organizations are using social media to drive their audiences to email newsletters and other forms of direct communication where they can more purposefully connect and build community. Throughout the interview, Chris shares a number of helpful brand building tips to better understand and connect with your audience, and then wraps up with how his company can help.
