Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Melody Murphy, Workforce and Continuing Education director at Columbia State Community College, who highlights Tennessee’s first community college (established in 1966) and their Leadership for Operational Excellence program, which benefits new and emerging leaders to help them develop necessary skills and a toolkit of resources to help them excel as they move and grow in their leadership roles. Columbia State offers more than 80 Academic Paths with both traditional and online courses, in both credit and non-credit formats. The community college has five locations and serves a nine-county area in Middle Tennessee: Giles, Lawrence, Lewis, Hickman, Marshall, Maury, Perry, Wayne and Williamson.
During the interview, Melody talks about Columbia State Community College’s Office of Workforce and Continuing Education and spotlights their Leadership for Operational Excellence program. The Leadership for Operational Excellence program nurtures success and provides participants with the skills and resources for them to excel as leaders within their organizations. Topics covered include leadership styles, generations and teams, employee engagement and productivity, communication and leading your team, business finance and budgets, presentation skills and networking as well as delivering outcomes and managing change. Melody shares how the program is a separate opportunity for growth and development, and how anyone can take advantage of the opportunity to further their career and leadership skills. She talks about the structure and timing of the program and how individuals can enroll for the upcoming fall semester or how organizations can create a cohort learning model for their employees at any time. She shares some success stories and how the program has been impactful for individual career growth and beneficial to companies and the community, as well.
