Bob Furniss, Founded Keesha Warrior Princess, a nonprofit named in honor of his daughter, Keesha Furniss. Diagnosed with stage-4 metastatic breast cancer at the young age of 30, she battled for four years before the disease took her in November 2017.
Bob shares that emotional story and discusses the mission of the organization to save lives by increasing early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer in women age 25-45 through education and community. He also highlights some lessons learned and how the community can help raise awareness and join in the effort.
Our nonprofit is named after the original #WarriorPrincess, Keesha Furniss. Diagnosed with stage-4 metastatic breast cancer at the young age of 30, she battled for four years before the disease took her in November, 2017. She told us she realized she missed many of the key signs and asked us to share her story with the world – to save other young women – from the pain, suffering and even death associated with this horrible disease.
What We Have Planned
- Provide community grants to women’s clinics to support women who cannot afford annual OB/GYN appointments.
- Partner with like-minded nonprofits.
- Create and distribute various reminders for monthly breast self-checks and annual clinical check-up (soon to come: shower-hanger cards and web/iPhone reminder apps).
- To educate women 25-40 that breast cancer is not just for older women.
- To increase the number of women completing monthly self-breast exams.
- To increase the number of women completing regular gynecological visits .
- To provide community, information and encouragement.
