Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Dr. Eileen Seitz, Founder and Executive Director of Giving Smiles, who highlights the volunteer-supported nonprofit organization providing high quality dental services to residents of Middle Tennessee who have limited resources and barriers to accessing dental care. Dr. Seitz was one of the recipients of the 38th Annual Mary Catherine Strobel Volunteer Awards with Hands On Nashville.
During the interview, Dr. Seitz shares the story of what led her to launch the nonprofit and how she started with the purchase of a mobile dental clinic van to be able to remove the barrier of transportation and see patients in rural areas, which currently do not have local dentists. She talks about evolving to have a three chair dental office for patients requiring longer procedures, and how other dentists give their time and service as volunteers to help power the mission. Dr. Seitz shares some stories of impact and discusses the importance of oral health, the generosity of donors and companies like Delta Dental of Tennessee and their Smile 180 Foundation, and how the community can support their efforts. She also talks about what the award from Hands On Nashville means to her personally and professionally.
