Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Johnny Rodman, Founder of Light in the Storm Disaster Relief, who highlights the faith-based nonprofit organization that provides disaster relief and support services to families across the Southeast United States. Rodman is a recipient of the 38th Annual Mary Catherine Strobel Volunteer Awards with Hands On Nashville in the category of Disaster Response.
During the interview, Rodman shares what led him to start the nonprofit after a back injury while serving in the United States Air Force, and how searching for purpose was a catalyst for serving in disaster relief efforts. He talks about the process and equipment his team uses for disaster response, how they use Facebook and other forms of communication to connect with victims of the disasters and volunteers seeking to help, and how they help victims and communities rebuild. He shares a story of impact after helping a family rebuild their home and discusses their efforts working with 1,200 volunteers after tornadoes struck Hendersonville and Madison, Tennessee in December 2023. Rodman discusses how his life and leadership have been impacted after working with hundreds of disaster victims and thousands of volunteers, and then shares the exciting news that the disaster relief ministry will be merging into The Manna Foundation to expand their efforts and impact and to be able to serve more disaster victims in need.
