Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Ernest D. Strickland, President and CEO of The Black Business Association of Memphis (BBA), who highlights the organization “missioned to improve the economic well-being of the Memphis region by developing successful entrepreneurs and MWBEs through education, advocacy, and business development.
During the interview, Ernest talks about the organization’s 50 year legacy and the important role the organization has and continues to play in empowering Black individuals to achieve economic mobility and secure a brighter future by helping them acquire valuable business skills and make meaningful connections. He discusses some of their programs and initiatives centered on education, counseling, networking and advocacy and then shares a success story to exemplify how empowering one entrepreneur can change the trajectory and legacy for a family and community. Ernest then talks about the next 50 years and highlights the organization’s rebrand to become The Black Chamber of Memphis. He talks about why the organization is changing its name, their focus on collaboration with other organizations, including the Greater Memphis Chamber, and how the community can support their efforts with their new “offer-based” memberships and sponsorships.
