Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network and 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline

Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Anna Sever, Executive Director of the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network (TSPN), who highlights the statewide organization focused on saving lives in Tennessee by working to eliminate the stigma of suicide.

During the interview, Anna shares some of the history for the nonprofit organization and discusses their education efforts and events, which expose as many as possible to the facts about suicide, the warning signs and risk factors, how to help and take action, and the resources that are available. TSPN offers different trainings specialized for businesses, schools, and organizations and the sessions are free with the autonomy to choose which session best suits your audience. Anna then shares some warning signs and key takeaways from the trainings, and talks at about the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The Lifeline is a free 24/7, confidential, short-term crisis counseling line for those experiencing distress. Anna shares how 988 is available to everyone, not just those who are suicidal; and how you can call, text, or chat 988 if you are overwhelmed, stressed, and need to talk with a trained counselor. She covers ways to get involved and support their efforts, including the importance of helping to promote and share 988 to your network as a valuable mental health resource.
