Nashville Software School, impact of AI on jobs in the tech industry

Host Jeremy C. Park talks with John Wark, Founder and CEO of Nashville Software School (NSS), who highlights the Middle Tennessee-based nonprofit vocational school that trains adults in software development, data analytics, and data science.

During the interview, John shares what led him to launch the nonprofit organization after a long career in the tech industry and as an entrepreneur who heard companies asking for more tech talent and seeing the potential of the adults who wanted to learn and pursue careers in the industry. Almost 3,000 individuals have graduated from NSS over the last 12 years. John talks about their various programs, how they align with companies to make sure the curriculum matches up to the needs and how they have a track record of job placements after graduation.

He discusses their unique model and how they provide accessible education through Opportunity Tuition, their version of deferred tuition, for about half of their students, which makes tech careers more attainable. John then discusses how AI is impacting the industry and jobs, and how there are and will continue to be a lot of opportunities available for developers, who are problem solvers. He wraps up talking about how the community can get involved and support their efforts.
