Friendship Missionary Baptist Church: A City of Grace in Nashville

Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Pastor Frank D. Stevenson, Senior Pastor at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church: A City of Grace, who highlights how the church is dedicated to intentionally serving in the community and uplifting those who need help and support. The church is located at 2800 Buena Vista Pike in Nashville, Tennessee.

During the interview, Pastor Stevenson shares some of his personal story and background, and why community outreach is so important to him and to the congregation. The church has more than 30 ministries and initiatives aimed at enhancing the lives of the young and young at heart. He touches on some of the different programs, including feeding programs for families and seniors and how working to end loneliness and isolation among the elderly and working to help single mothers are close to his heart. The church also hosts support groups for domestic violence victims and workshops designed to boost mental wellness. There are annual community events that offer free health screenings, shoes and clothing. Free book fairs are hosted to help prevent academic setbacks among grade schoolers. There’s a college ministry that was launched to provide students with a home away from home in terms of meals, supplies and mentorship, as well as a caring place to worship. Programs implemented by the church and its partners don’t require membership in order to benefit, but are based on need. Outreach efforts include support for local homeless shelters along with helping provide job opportunities.

Pastor Stevenson then talks about some of the other ways he is personally engaged in the community, including chairing the Metro Authority Hospital Board to help ensure quality healthcare and educational programs for the underserved at Nashville General Hospital. He serves on the Nashville Predators Foundation Board, and shares his experience helping the team invest in the community and give back to support numerous nonprofits, and also highlights My Father’s House, which provides shelter, parenting education, recovery information, and life skills for fathers coming out of institutions or possibly homelessness, so that they may gain or regain their independence while transitioning into society.

Pastor Stevenson wraps up sharing ways individuals can become the change they would like to see in the world and how the community can get involved and support the efforts of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church: A City of Grace.
