06/26: Memphis Nonprofit Tour – Overton Park Conservancy

June 26 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Join us for a special cityCURRENT Nonprofit Tour as part of Volunteer Odyssey’s Summer of Service campaign as we explore the incredible work happening at Overton Park Conservancy on Friday, June 26 from 9:00–11:00 A.M.

During this immersive experience, guests will learn more about the park’s master plan, sustainability efforts, and community initiatives — including the exciting pollinator garden project — while enjoying a guided tour through the historic Old Forest State Natural Area.

Located in the heart of Memphis, the Old Forest is the only old-growth forest in the Southeast situated within an urban environment. This rare ecosystem offers a powerful glimpse into the region’s natural history while highlighting the importance of conservation and environmental stewardship today.

Originally spanning 200 acres when Overton Park was founded in 1901, the Old Forest now encompasses 142 protected acres, including 126 acres officially designated as a State Natural Area in 2011. Managed by Overton Park Conservancy in partnership with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, the forest remains a treasured natural resource for generations to come.

Guests will also experience the park’s scenic trails, including paved and unpaved walking paths, the limestone running trail, and the popular Old Forest Loop.

Come connect with fellow community leaders, learn how environmental preservation impacts our city, and discover meaningful ways to engage through service this summer.
