The SPARK Awards 2020: Frederick Douglass High Optional School

Congratulations to Frederick Douglass High School for receiving The SPARK Awards 2020 Education School Award for their philanthropic work in our community.

After being closed for 27 years, Frederick Douglass High Optional School was rebuilt and relaunched in fall of 2008.

“FDHS is truly student-focused, creating endless opportunities and programs to address every student need. Their current leadership carries on traditions from the original Douglass High School, like their Daughters and Sons of Douglass programs. They also have an Optional Program for Communication Arts that has been adopted by the University of Memphis Department of Communication & Film, providing opportunities for mentorship, job shadowing, workshops, and training for students in the many fields of communications. It also grants Douglass’ students access to the University of Memphis campus for lectures, concerts, plays, and other events.”
